I cut my hair! September 23, 2010

Filed under: Experiences — Anaiz @ 8:10 am

I had been thinking of cutting my hair shorter, and this past weekend I went ahead and finally did it! I mean’t to take a picture of my hair before I cut it, but I forgot so here is a picture from a while ago that will serve as my Before:

Why the glum face? Maybe b’cuz my hair was getting boring. When I cut my hair it was nearing my elbow. Now for my After:

I consider it a semi-success. I say semi because my hair only looks presentable when I curl it or put it in a small ponytail. It gets “poofy” at the ends and since it’s to my shoulders it looks plain silly. It was worth the experiment! I’m glad I took the plunge and just did it. I have to admit I felt a bit of panic when she made the first cut (it was a good 5 inches!) but it lasted half a second and she continued cutting. I haven’t had hair this short since elementary school, talk about going “old school” ๐Ÿ˜€

Any readers with shoulder-length hair out there? Any tips for a newbie?

Happy Thursday!

Friday Thoughts September 17, 2010

Weather has been on the chilly side lately and even though I love a good peppermint tea or a pumpkin spice latte (yum!) I still eat ice cream as often as I do in ninety degree weather in the summer. I’m always up for trying new flavors and brands so the other day I bought a pint of Ciao Bella brand gelato in Tahitian Vanilla. All I can say is wow! It was so delicious, it really was the best vanilla I’ve ever tried.

If you knew me you’d know I am a new lover of frozen yogurt. I went to my favorite yogurt spot Yogurtland yesterday with a friend and was delighted to see they had a new flavor up, pumpkin pie! Once again I had hit the jackpot, it was delicious! Man I really love pumpkin. You know I’ve never carved a pumpkin before? I think I might this year. I also want to bake an apple pie and a pumpkin pie from scratch. If I can defeat the cheesecake I can defeat the pies!

Any goals this holiday season?

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Mexican food and US Open tennis September 14, 2010

While in Los Angeles we were able to eat at a family favorite restaurant named:

I had the vegetable fajitas:

(sorry I totally picked at the avocado)

What I really like about this restaurant (other than the food) is the ambiance. They have authentic decorations complete with:

Before we left I had been watching Nadal’s match with Gilles Simon and was feeling pretty bummed at having to miss the end, but lo and behold they were showing the match on a television near my table! It was fun getting my entire table to applaud as Nadal celebrated his victory even though my aunt didn’t understand a thing about the game (only that my future husband Nadal was alto y guapo). Good food and a Nadal match, what more could I want ย in one sitting? ๐Ÿ™‚

Update: Nadal won the US Open! I was too happy for words last night, I felt so much pride ๐Ÿ™‚ Vamos Rafa!

Happy Tuesday!

Friday Thoughts September 10, 2010

The weather here has been what some people might call gloomy, but I in fact love it! It’s cloudy but not terribly cold or windy or humid. It’s perfect. Since I have (of course) been watching the U.S. Open where it has been very windy I somehow feel closer to all the tennis action, like I am not located on the other side of the country. I’d like to take this opportunity to say congrats to Rafael Nadal on his win last night! Anyhoo, this weather makes me want to grab a hot drink and a cozy sweater. If I heard correctly the pumpkin spice latte is back?!

Speaking of cozy sweaters I received an order from Forever 21 yesterday and I must say that everything fit and looked perfect! I love ordering from Forever 21 (Heritage 1981 is my favorite hands down) since they are located in Los Angeles I get my order in no time. This year I am going to go out of my comfort zone and wear those fashionable clothes I am always drooling over. This is one of the sweaters I bought and you bet I am going to wear it in a similar way.

I will cease to be the girl who is afraid of clothing and what others think. I feel as if I am finally becoming the person I want to be. Hope you are all that point too.

Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. I’m sure many of you have heard of the San Bruno explosion which is located near San Francisco I hope you will all join me in keeping all those affected in our thoughts.

Roadtrip! September 9, 2010

This past Labor Day weekend my mom, sister, and I drove to Los Angeles to visit my aunt and her family. We left at five in the morning to beat traffic and the heat. I have to admit, long drives aren’t exactly my thing, but it was worth it because we finally got to meet the newest member of the family, Abri! And I was asleep almost the entire time ๐Ÿ™‚

The trip back seemed faster, but it still looked like an endless road!

It wasn’t until we were closer to home that I finally saw lots and lots of trees and green.

All in all it was pretty ok for a 5 hour drive…with music!

I was going to post everything we did in LA, but I decided to split it up into two. Second half will come Monday ๐Ÿ˜€

Happy Thursday!

Well lovely readers I am currently in Los Angeles with family meeting little Abri for the first time! Hope you guys are enjoying your three day weekend, I wanted to leave y’all with a feel good post to prep you for the coming week. A friend of my sister dedicated this song to another friend who was feeling down after a bad breakup, but I believe there is no need to wait for a bad situation to send this song to someone you think is awesome.

So I dedicate this song to you!

Happy Monday!

Memorable sixth birthday party August 31, 2010

First I would like to thank all of those who left encouraging comments on yesterday’s post, I am glad to know I can count on the support of my readers!

And now for the lowdown on my chaotic Saturday. My day started at five in the morning to the news that a pipe had burst in the front yard and the city had cut off our water supply. Yes I had no running water on the day of my nephew’s sixth birthday party! Luckily we were having it at a park, if we had planned to have it at our house I don’t know what we would’ve done.

We left to the Ed R Levin Park (unwashedย and without using a restroom) at eight to decorate and score a good spot near a parking lot. We finished up and came back home wondering where in the world we were going to shower. We ended up showering and getting ready at my uncle’s home, we didn’t really have much time so we left straight to the park from there with wet hair and unsightly brows. Oh and I didn’t have a chance to wash the long-sleeved shirt I wanted to wear because I mistakenly believed it to be clean and folded in my drawer, so naturally I was cold at the park (again I didn’t wash sweaters). A bit of advice at this point, don’t leave for tomorrow what you can do today because you never know if you’ll have water or not ๐Ÿ˜€

So we made it to the park and finished setting up and started cooking the food. Then we realized we still needed some stuff so my sister and I went off on yet another trip to our house. I think at this point we had three trips to and from the park. Lovely. It was all for a good cause though, my nephew had a blast and at his age he isn’t aware of the behind the scenes yet, but I definitely have a story for him when he is older!

No kids party is complete without games, a Pokemon pinata, and a Spongebob cake!

After a long (but fun) day at the park, it was time to head home and relax. My Dad (bless his soul) spent the majority of his day (and the party) working on that darn pipe so we had running water at the end of the day hooray!

Happy Tuesday!
